“We Serve” Feature: A Team Boosting Up Local Food Banks
As part of Floyd Lee Locums volunteerism program, “We Serve,” we encourage employees to partner with people and programs that better the communities we live in. One key problem that continually arises as a gap in our local and regional communities is food shortages or food deserts. That’s why, several of our team members gave their time, effort, and donations to support food banks in their local areas.
It started when the Floyd Lee Locums team organized a food drive at the company headquarters in Charleston, South Carolina in February. While that event could have been a one-off, our amazing team ensured that in reverberated outward and more of our employees across the country got involved.
Examples of generosity arose almost immediately, like our Manager of Business Development Lauren Weatherbee’s story of joining up with FeedMore WNY to help with their Backpack Program. Ever since, she’s been volunteering monthly at the food bank to make sure school-aged kids aren’t going hungry on the weekends. Lauren even noted that in a recent session, her group packed 420 bags, which will surely go to good use for kids in need.
Then came the story of our Sales Support Coordinator Rae Hernandez. Rae volunteered in her home state of Arizona at the Flagstaff Family Food Center to distribute food boxes throughout her community. For over 30 years, community members have been committed to feeding their Flagstaff neighbors and ensuring no one goes hungry.
“I helped package and distribute food boxes and sack lunches,” said Rae. “It was a very eye-opening and humbling experience seeing all walks of life reach out for help and pick up food. It was also uplifting to talk to other volunteers and learn how often and where others serve our community.”
Food support was just as needed in our IT and Help Desk Manager Jason Greene’s neck of the words. He and his daughter recently took time out to volunteer at Help 4 Kids Florence. This organization is a program that supplies food packs to at-risk students—and sends them home on Fridays with backpacks full of food to last them the weekend.
We are so impressed with our Floyd Lee Locums team of food bank warriors. But we don’t need to do it alone! If you want to donate time, effort or resources to a food bank in your area, we encourage you to find a food bank charity organization you can support today.
