As part of Floyd Lee Locums volunteerism program, “We Serve,” we encourage employees to partner with people and programs that better the communities we live in. To ramp up our efforts around this corporate initiative, we decided to focus on the nationwide blood shortage and hold a corporate donation drive for the American Red Cross.
Every year, 4.5 million Americans need a blood transfusion. That means every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. In the last two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has created a massive drop in donations due to the concern of potential COVID-19 exposure. In fact, there is a National Blood Shortage causing major disruptions to care across the country.
As a healthcare staffing company, we know well the barriers our locums providers face in delivering high-quality treatment that serves both patients and communities. Layer on the additional obstacle of gaps or absences of available blood, and the task in offering care only deepens for those in need.
That’s why Floyd Lee Locums employees are stepping up to donate. Just in the last month, several members of our incredible team stepped up to give blood.
“The reason I donate,” said Healthcare Consultant Carissa, “is because growing up, my parents instilled the motto in me, ‘Always be nice to everyone. You never know when you might need a friend.’ I try to live by that and help others in any way I can. After all, you never know when you might need blood.”
Even more team members are already scheduled to join the cause to donate blood to the American Red Cross in 2022! This focus on one key volunteer opportunity allows us to bring all our organizational spirit to bear for good—and create continued momentum around our motto to “Serve those who serve others.” In this case, that motto is in service of care professionals and the patients they eventually impact for the better.
But we don’t need to do it alone! If you are eligible, the American Red Cross (and affiliated associations and blood drives) is asking any healthy donors to give blood.
