Floyd Lee Locums was proud to nominate podiatrist Aerial Avery, D.P.M., for Locumpedia’s 2022 Provider of the Year award. Upon learning in February that he had won, the team knew they had to do something special for him.
Dr. Avery grew up in an underserved community, which is why he made it his mission to bring medical care to those in need. After practicing medicine in Virginia and New York for more than two decades, he decided to return to his home state of Oklahoma to explore locum tenens work. Floyd Lee Locums connected him with an assignment within the state where he could provide tribal health services.
Known for his charitable giving, shared lineage with the First American community, and for championing holistic medicine that respects cultural practices; Dr. Avery’s thoughtful approach has a memorable effect on both his patients and his colleagues. In January of this year, he turned that locums assignment into a permanent role.
The Floyd Lee Locums team decided to celebrate his well-deserved honor by visiting him at his home facility. CEO Natasha Lee and Senior Healthcare Consultants Nicole Lay and Leslie Munn coordinated the visit with facility administrators and came to Oklahoma, surprising Dr. Avery with a custom commemoration of the award.
Just prior to the presentation, the team toured the facility and met several other Floyd Lee Locums providers currently on assignment there.
Earlier in the day, the team experienced a guided tour of a nearby cultural center, which offers immersive experiences in the history and culture of the First American community through exhibits, art, film, and dance. The tour made a deep impression on the team.
At dinner that evening, the Floyd Lee Locums team enjoyed Dr. Avery’s company as he and his colleagues traded personal stories and a few laughs. They discussed why they became doctors and shared insights into their personal journeys to provide healthcare to those in need.
The team was reminded that its shared mission makes a difference, more than ever.
