“We Serve” Feature: Unifying the Team to Volunteer for United Way
As part of Floyd Lee Locums volunteerism program, “We Serve,” we encourage employees to partner with people and programs that better the communities we live in. We especially love when our team is able to combine their time and effort, which was the case recently when Rae Hernandez, Chelsea Kavanagh, and Jessica Westling volunteered with the United Way.
As an organization, United Way seeks to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good. This aligns with Floyd Lee Locums’ own mission of serving others. We recognize our impact extends beyond the walls of our building or the bounds of our industry.
As a team, Rae, Chelsea, and Jessica joined the United Way in its Sandbag Relief Effort. If you’re familiar with Arizona, you may know that Flagstaff and its surrounding communities are affected annually by wildfires, followed immediately by monsoon season. Pair these back-to-back extremes, and you get devastation for families across the state.
Not only that, but during the wildfires, communities are faced with water run-off from battling the fires themselves. The repeating impact this run-off has on soil erosion and ground absorption that isn’t accustomed to it causes tremendous collateral damage to the surrounding ecosystem.
Which is why the Floyd Lee Locums team was happy to join the United Way in filling sandbags that would be delivered to local fire crews. Now, Flagstaff neighborhoods and homes in need of help and protection have hope.
“We spent time shoveling cinders, filling bags, tying bags, and then loading them onto pallets,” said our Sale Support of Provider Services, Rae Hernandez. “It was a great morning spent together helping others!”
Rae also noted that the United Way goes a step further to protect the environment by using biodegradable sandbags, so as not to negatively change the Arizonan ecosystem around them. The bags then have a UV coating applied to them to help withstand the intense sun and heat in the region.
To Rae, Chelsea, and Jessica and the other incredible volunteers at United Way making a difference, we say, “Thank You.” Your spirit of generosity is impressive and will save countless homes, businesses, and heartache.
