March 25, 2025 – North Charleston, SC. Floyd Lee Locums is proud to announce that Dr. Mira Mitry, an Internal Medicine Hospitalist, has been recognized as a 2024 Provider of the Year winner by Locumpedia. This prestigious award highlights Dr. Mitry’s contributions to locum tenens, particularly her dedication to delivering culturally competent care in underserved communities.
Dr. Mitry’s Community Impact
Dr. Mitry has been a valued member of Floyd Lee Locums for several years, consistently dedicated to bridging cultural gaps in healthcare. As a Greek Orthodox physician fluent in English and Arabic, Dr. Mitry brings minority representation and language skills to her assignments that break through communication barriers often experienced in rural communities. For the last two years, Dr. Mitry has been a locum tenens physician in southern Louisiana with Ochsner Medical Center and Slidell Memorial Hospital, where she helped build a new Hospital Medicine Department. She has also worked with Floyd Lee Locums to serve the metropolitan area of Dayton, Ohio at Miami Valley Hospital.
Celeste Hingle, Operations Manager at Slidell Memorial Hospital, was thrilled to hear Dr. Mitry was nominated for the Locumpedia Provider of the Year award, saying, “Dr. Mitry has played a significant role in our daily operations here at Slidell Memorial Hospital. She started with us early in 2024 after we just opened a Hospital Medicine Department…She has been a great fit and has made a lasting impact here at Slidell Memorial Hospital. We appreciate her hard work, kindness, compassion and knowledge that she has shown to our team and patients while working here at SMH. So, THANK YOU Dr. Mitry! We appreciate you and all you have done for us and the patients of our community!”
Emily Ramee, Chair of Ochsner Medical Center’s Hospital Medicine Department, echoes Ms. Hingle, sharing, “Dr. Mira Mitry is our very top locums MD. She has been a huge asset to our team this past year; she’s a great clinician and knows medicine.”
Dr. Mitry has had a lasting impact on many facilities. At Wayne Health in Michigan, she developed and implemented an inpatient hospitalist system to increase patient bed capacity. She oversaw and directly managed 12 hospitalists and eight Nurse Practitioners as their Academic Hospitalist Program Director and provided inpatient medical care while mentoring internal medicine residents.
She is currently on the Utilization Review Committee to decrease the rate of readmissions at Karmanos Cancer Institute, serves as a Residency Election Committee member at Wayne State University helping to select medical students for their residency program, and is a member of the Morbidity and Mortality Committee at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Dr. Mitry also serves on the Sepsis Committee at Detroit Receiving Hospital to improve the quality of care for septic patients to decrease mortality. Dr. Mitry balances all these responsibilities even when on a locums assignment.
Nicole Gibbons, Client Services Manager at Floyd Lee Locums, says Dr. Mitry “sets the bar” because of her responsiveness, kindness, and top-tier performance at facilities. These characteristics have led to requests for additional coverage while on assignment, assignment extensions, and even offers of full-time employment.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Mitry is a beloved volunteer with multiple organizations in Michigan and Pennsylvania where she has tutored children in English who just immigrated to the United States. At St. Mary and St. Bishop Coptic Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania, she facilitated a hepatitis C awareness event for the Egyptian community. She also serves as a hospitalist with the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, providing medical care to veterans in the emergency room. Her awards include the Most Engaged Physician Award at Detroit Receiving Hospital, the Internal Medicine Faculty Teaching Award from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and the Mark Young M.D. Resident Quality Improvement Award from Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA.
