The Beach Is Calling. Bring Your Work To It!

One of the obvious perks of working locums is squeezing in a little vacation time while you’re away from home. Get away from the often tiresome routine of your day-to-day, take advantage of a nicer climate, work a set schedule – while probably getting paid more than you normally do, and use that down time to experience a new place – with your travel and housing already paid for. Who can argue with that?

The only real question is…where should your next paid vacation be?

Test the waters in North Carolina this summer. (We think you’ll like them!)

Why is North Carolina so special?

You may not know the allure of North Carolina summers: the near perfect weather – sunny but still cool and breezy enough to be comfortable, a short drive to the beach or the mountains no matter where you are in the state, the laidback pace of Southern life and that famed hospitality.… You can’t get much better than that.

North Carolina’s 200 mile coastline is perfect for those who need a healthy dose of vitamin D. You’ll find quieter stretches of white sand beaches in the Outer Banks that aren’t as congested as many tourist-heavy areas you may have suffered through before, often situated in the charm of small coastal towns, with everything from surfing to hang gliding. Fish from a local pier or on the open ocean, take a cruise or bring your own boat to ride the waves, or just enjoy a relaxing day on the beach and catch up on that neglected book you keep promising yourself you’ll get to eventually to the soothing sound of ocean waves crashing at the shore. (Spa package optional, of course!)

Why is it right for me?

Most locums assignments in North Carolina are in underserved communities along the coast, so most likely, the beach will be right outside your door. Further inland, you can also explore beautiful forests and mountains perfect for adventurers. Go hiking or biking down scenic trails for a change of pace in your exercise routine, camp out under the stars (with no pollution or bright lights to ruin the view), try whitewater kayaking or rock climbing, or embrace the tranquility of being away from the noise and frantic pace of city life.

Did I mention there are over 400 golf courses of varying terrains and difficulties across the state and several major sports venues? Add to that an assortment of attractions that are great for families (rollercoasters, anyone?), historical opportunities from war reenactments to one of the birthplaces of the civil rights movement, museums on everything from aviation to pirates. There’s no end to what you may find yourself doing this summer while you relocate for locums.
